While the bathroom may not be the first place one thinks of when they think of lighting design, it certainly is an important room to consider. As underrated as it may be, people spend a lot more time there than they realize. It is often times the first-place people go to when they wake up in the morning and one of the last places they visit before they go to bed. Many people spend time grooming and preparing for the day in their bathroom. All these reasons point towards having optimal lighting that sets the mood for the day.
Types of Lighting
There is more to lighting than aesthetics. Having quality bulbs that are reliable and fulfill your desired purpose is most important. Galvanized light fixtures can be a wonderful choice for the bathroom lighting fixtures due to their durability in a moist environment. There are many different bulb types that have different functions. Some main things to consider are how much energy they consume, their color temperature, and how their color affects the mood of the room.
Here at The Lamp Goods, we have bathroom wall lighting like our farmhouse vanity light that is very unique from what is on the web. Then our bathroom ceiling lights offer you a choice of galvanized light fixtures, milk glass lights for a softer glow of illumination or mason jar light fixture for the farmhouse lighting style. However one of our most popular bathroom vanity lights is our antique glass vanity light found here.
Color Temperature
Color temperature describes the color of the light that a light bulb provides, and it measured in Kelvin (K). The lower the color temperature, the warmer the color of the light appears. The higher the color temperature, the cooler the color of the light appears. Many people prefer light in the 2700-3000k range because it is the closet color to natural sunlight, making it the ideal color temperature range. Color temperature can affect the mood of a room. Warmer color temperatures give off a red or auburn color which is typically cozier. Cooler color temperatures give off a blue or green color which is better for clarity.
Placement
Lighting placement is extremely important within the bathroom, especially around the mirror. It needs to be balanced and shadows should be considered. One thing to avoid is asymmetrical lighting. Placing a light on one side of the mirror will create uneven illumination and may cast a shadow on your reflection, making it distorted and grooming difficult. Symmetrical lighting will alleviate this issue and minimize inconsistencies. We have a wall sconce section with amazing lights to choose from. It is also best to not use a single overhead light above the mirror. Even in a smaller bathroom, a single light fixture may not be sufficient in illuminating it entirely. Layer your lighting by using multiple lighting types. For mirror lighting, it is best to have lighting on the sides and above the mirror so that it is a balanced, fully-illuminated view. Our mason jar bathroom vanity light is a popular choice for above the mirror lighting especially if you need farmhouse vanity light look!
Still unsure of where to start? We have an entire section dedicated to lights that are optimal for the bathroom! Check out our bathroom lights today and find your perfect light!
